In March we had the opportunity to meet two wonderful volunteers, Maaike and Veronica, and hear about the work they do with Musalaha. It was inspiring to hear how they are working towards a just and lasting peace for both Palestinians and Israelis, facilitating reconciliation in a region that has suffered from violence and conflict for decades. Unfortunately, the evening was too short to fully explore all the questions and topics that arose.
To delve deeper into these issues, we have organised two online meetings with two Palestinian theologians: Dr Yousef AlKhouri, Dean of Bethlehem Bible College, and Dr Salim Munayer, one of the founders of Musalaha. In the first session, we will discuss the importance of hearing and listening to Palestinian Christians, and how Palestinian Christians and Christians in the West can be a source of blessing and hope for both Palestinians and Israelis. We will explore the main themes of the Kairos Palestine document, of which Yousef is one of the principal authors, consider what Palestinian Christians would like to say to Dutch Christians, reflect on universal Christian principles in a Palestinian context, and discuss the challenges they face. In the second session, we will look at how Musalaha seeks to address these challenges, the ways in which it brings hope to both Palestinians and Israelis, and what we as a church can do to support this work. There will be plenty of opportunity for dialogue and questions, so everyone is warmly invited to come along with their thoughts and questions.
