AGM Report: A Night of Reflection, Vision, and Thanksgiving

28/3/2026

On Wednesday 25 March, St James held its Annual General Meeting at the Cultureel Centrum in Voorschoten. It was a wonderful evening — full of energy and laughter — and we are grateful to everyone who came. The minutes the meeting are available here.

Reflecting on our Mission Statement A year ago, St James launched a Mission Statement: "a Christ-centred community that invites people on a journey of faith, growth, and action." The AGM gave us a chance to take stock of where we are on that journey. We celebrated the things we're proud of — the progress made over the past year — and honestly acknowledged the things we're still working on. (see photos below)

We also spent time in what we called 'sanctified daydreaming': imagining together what kind of impact St James might have in the years ahead, and what it might look like to be a church that truly lives out its calling. All of this was anchored in a passage from Ephesians 3:

"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or conceive, by the power which is at work among us, to him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus throughout all ages." — Ephesians 3:20–21

It was a reminder that the future of St James is held by God — and that he is able to do far more than we can imagine.

Elections The meeting also included the election of officers for the 2026/27 year. We are delighted to welcome those taking on new roles, and deeply grateful to those continuing to serve.

The Church Council for 2026/27 is:
  • Matt Thijs — Chaplain
  • Stephan Hinderer and Fulco Jongsma — Churchwardens
  • Iris Boerhout — Licensed Reader
  • Liesbeth Kanis and Boaz van der Velden-Kieviet — Archdeaconry Synod Representatives (Liesbeth also attends Diocesan Synod)
  • Simeon Wentink, Rhys Whomsley, Jop Gelders, Timothy Hanford, Rachel Kurian, Victoria Jongsma, and Sarah Weinberg — Council Members

We are also grateful to those serving in other important roles: Fredrik Knoeff (treasurer), Bart Kooij (bookkeeper), and Boaz Kuiper (external examiner).

A heartfelt thank you We want to express our sincere gratitude to those who have served St James faithfully in various roles and are now stepping down: Peter Stretton, Paul Leach, Sue Kirby, Thérèse Jongsma, and Brian Routledge. Your contribution to the life of this church has been a gift, and we thank God for each of you.
