St. J's First Steps
(crèche for under 4s)
During the Sunday morning services the little ones are looked after by a team of dedicated helpers. A priority for the ‘First Steps’ team is that your child can have fun in a secure, informal setting. Every effort is made to ensure that children enjoy safe, stimulating play within the boundaries of routine and consistency. Other than play, we also have guided activities such as simple Bible stories, fun craft activities related to the Bible story and singing of songs. Whilst listening to the Bible story we have a drink of water and a biscuit.
We are located in one of the rooms off the main corridor, near the entrance to the large hall where the main service is held. Please ask the Welcome Team to direct you. On communion Sundays (every other week) we, as a group of helpers and children, come forward during communion for a blessing and then go back to our room for singing and tidy up. If you prefer, you are of course very welcome to pick your child up to take them to the front for a blessing yourself, just discuss this with the helpers on the day.
St James is committed to the well-being of all children in our congregation, and operates in accordance with safeguarding best practice and Diocese in Europe regulations. All our children’s helpers are recruited and trained accordingly, and on any Sunday there is a minimum of two helpers, one of which will be a Dutch speaker.
