About St James

St James is family church that welcomes all who want to share in Christian worship in the English language. We hope that you find a warm welcome and will be encouraged to come and join the life of St James.

History

St James started as a church plant from St John and St Philip’s in the Hague back in 1979 to provide for the growing number of English speaking people in the area due to the presence of the British School in the town.  We have continued to rent the BSN ever since but have grown from a classroom to meeting in the main hall.  St James became an independent church in 1996 and took its name from St James of Jerusalem, the presumed author of the New Testament letter of St James.  It is from this letter that we take our motto, “faith and action working together”.

Values

 St James is an evangelical church within the Diocese in Europe of the Church of England.  St James aims:

to love and honour God through worship;
to grow in our faith through the nurture of God’s word;
to care for one another through prayer and practical help
to reach out into the world and touch those who do not yet know Christ.

Ministry

 The fulfilment of our mission statement comes through the ministry teams that operate within St James and these are: Worship, Nurture, Outreach, Pastoral Care and Stewardship

Each team contributes to the overall life of St James.  With St James being a transitory community there is always an opportunity for you to exercise your gifts for the enhancement of our mission highlighted above.

Worship

This team focuses on bringing all the things necessary for us to worship God.  This varies from the very practical such as preparing the room for the service on a Sunday to organising preachers, themes, music, ecumenical services and more.

Nurture

This team enables St James family grow in its faith.  It includes our young people’s ministry and Sunday School, the enquirers courses we run from time to time, home groups, the bookstall and our library.

Outreach

Here we focus on those who are not yet members of St James.  This involves our publicity, website, our mission partners throughout the world, organising low key events to which we can invite people to so that they may see something of the light of Christ.

Pastoral

Care is the nature of this team.  It is about helping one another in need, practically and prayerfully through prayer ministry, the prayer chain and prayers for healing.

Stewardship

God has blessed us with many resources and this team enables St James to use them appropriately and wisely.  This includes our property, our administration, our planned giving scheme and meeting our responsibilities to external organisations.
